Sustainable development goals of the UN

A total of 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is an ambitious plan by UN countries to improve life on the planet by 2030. The SDGs' primary purpose is for all people to live a dignified life without poverty, hunger and inequality, and reach their full potential. The SDGs aim to protect our planet from climate change, eradicate hunger and poverty, prevent inequality and much more. To fulfil the SDGs, not only the individual governments of the UN states but also all of us must contribute. CZU actively contributes to the fulfilment of all goals of sustainable development of the UN and would like to motivate its students to do so. That is why this year, CZU Campus Sustainability Challenge 2021 is dedicated to SDGs. So that SDGs are not just abstract concepts for you, below you will find a list of all goals and inspiration on how each of us can contribute to their fulfilment.

 

SDG 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere

What can you do as an individual?

  • Purchase from companies that treat their employees well and behave fair.
  • Don't throw away unnecessary things but share or donate them.
  • Save, borrow and invest responsibly.

 

SDG 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

What can you do as an individual?

  • Buy local, seasonal and fair-trade products.
  • Avoid throwing food away.
  • Freeze food leftovers for later.

 

SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all of all ages

What can you do as an individual?

  • Actively exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
  • Take care of your mental health.
  • Donate blood.

 

SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

What can you do as an individual?

  • Donate books you don't need.
  • Participate in individual tutoring of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Educate yourself all life long. Recognize fake news and report cyberbullying.

 

SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

What can you do as an individual?

  • Avoid gender stereotypes.
  • Oppose discrimination against women and girls.
  • Act against sexism, speak out against sexual harassment.

 

SDG 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

What can you do as an individual?

  • Switch on the washing machine only when it is full.
  • Do not flush rubbish or chemicals.
  • Switch off running water when brushing your teeth.

 

SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

What can you do as an individual?

  • Replace ordinary light bulbs with energy-saving ones.
  • Unplug appliances that you are not using.
  • Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones.

 

SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

What can you do as an individual?

  • Learn how to manage and take care of finances properly.
  • Find out the origin of the goods you are buying.
  • Support local businesses.

 

SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

What can you do as an individual?

  • Recycle waste.
  • Embrace innovations that change the world for the better.
  • Calculate your carbon footprint and find out how to reduce it.

 

SDG 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries

What can you do as an individual?

  • Learn about the cultures of other countries.
  • Be open to others and listen.
  • Define yourself against social stereotypes.

 

SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

What can you do as an individual?

  • Bike, walk or use public transport.
  • Do not use disposable packaging.
  • Keep your place of residence clean. Clean up local public spaces.

 

SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

What can you do as an individual?

  • Repair, recycle, share.
  • Compost.
  • Apply the principles of zero - waste.

 

SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

What can you do as an individual?

  • Reduce meat consumption, eat more plant-based foods.
  • Buy eco-friendly products.
  • Take an interest in climate issues. Share interesting articles on climate change on social networks.

 

SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

What can you do as an individual?

  • Instead of taking a bath, take a short shower.
  • Do not contaminate water with toxic substances. Avoid unnecessary plastics.
  • Buy sustainably farmed and caught fish and seafood.

 

SDG 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

  • Buy organic products.
  • Recycle and compost.
  • Collect rubbish in nature when running or walking.

 

SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

What can you do as an individual?

  • Exercise your right to choose representatives of the country and the local community.
  • Learn and demand respect for human rights.
  • Respect other nations and religions.

 

SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

What can you do as an individual?

  • Share good practice examples of sustainable development goals.
  • Volunteer for events in your community.
  • Support those who unite society.
