International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW)

Theme for ICAW 2023:

For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food…Compost!

The globally spread ICAW event originated from Canada, for almost three decades it has become the largest educational activity in the field of composting. It is supported by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.

 

Does not belong in the compost:

  • excrement of carnivorous pets
  • dairy products
  • fats
  • heat-processed foods (prepared meals)
  • eggs, meat, fish, bones
  • inorganic substances (fruit stickers, plastics, glass, etc.)
  • medicines
  • cigarette butts
  • pits (e.g. from avocado)

You know that, right?

On the CZU campus, can you deposit bio-waste in composters?

  • outdoor composters:
  • rotating composter on the FŽP - small terrace of the MCEVII building on the 2nd floor
  • electric composter on the FTZ - kitchenette on the 3rd floor
  • vermicomposter on the FTZ - outdoor terrace/walkway on the 2nd floor
  • vermicomposter on the Rectorate - located in the kitchen in the hallway on the 1st floor

 

CZU employees have the opportunity to compete for the design composter Plastia URBALIVE, which won the RedDot Design Award and Good Design, in the week from May 7 to 13, 2023. More about the competition here.
