Let's take the stairs

CZU cares about the health of its employees and students and therefore decided to motivate them positively to healthier habits. A small change in the daily routine can contribute to better physical and mental health.

"Using stairs instead of elevators at work can save your life," says Swiss researchers from Geneva University. They conducted a study in which 69 people with sedentary jobs were banned from using the elevator and escalators for three months. The results showed that the increased activity led to many positive changes. Learn more about the research here.

Did you know that…?

Regular walking up the stairs can lead to:

  • a drop in blood pressure and cholesterol,
  • reduced body fat,
  • improved lung capacity,
  • improved physical condition,
  • and many other benefits.

Students came up with the idea of ??placing motivational stickers on the stairs in the Rectorate building as part of the annual CZU Campus Sustainability Challenge. Together with the Department for the Quality of Educational and Creative Activities, they implemented the idea.

"The calorie reading on each step is for guidance only. The calculation of the actual number depends on the metabolism of each of us. The purpose of the stickers is primarily to motivate employees and other visitors of the Rectorate building for an easy physical activity or at least to make them think about it," explains Anna Josková, CZU Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator.

"I look forward to seeing the reactions of colleagues and getting feedback," adds Josková.
