As part of International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW 2026), taking place from 3 to 9 May, the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) is launching the university-wide campaign CZU COMPOSTS on 4 May.
The aim of the campaign is to highlight the importance of composting, responsible separation of biodegradable waste, and caring for soil as one of our most valuable natural resources. Thanks to the cooperation of the Sustainability Department, Operational Gardening, and individual faculties, everyone now has the opportunity to sort and compost bio-waste directly on the CZU campus.
Composting has a long tradition at CZU. Bio-waste bins and composters are now being placed even closer to waste sources. The bio-waste is processed into high-quality compost, which is then used directly on the university grounds. This year’s ICAW slogan captures the idea perfectly: “Compost! Feed the Soil that Feeds Us.”

In addition, on 6 May 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30, a spring turning of compost will take place at the SIVA community composter, located in front of the entrance to dormitory BCD. On this occasion, the first 50 participants will receive special bio-waste bins including compostable liners, suitable for use directly in offices.
