Biodiversity Challenge 2026 is a joint initiative taking place not only at our university, but also at 15 other European universities united within ICA – the network connecting life science universities across Europe. This challenge demonstrates that every university can become a living laboratory of sustainability.
Nature is not just “out there” — it is present in the parks, gardens, and green corners of our campuses. And this is exactly where we can start together.
Why participate?
Biodiversity is the foundation of a healthy environment
The diversity of plants and animals strengthens the resilience of ecosystems and enhances the quality of life for all of us. University campuses can be places where nature meets modern education and where inspiring examples of responsible environmental care emerge.
Everyone can contribute
Biodiversity Challenge 2026 is open to students, academics, and staff. Expertise is not required — curiosity is enough. Whether you can identify dozens of species or simply enjoy noticing a single flower by the pathway, you are welcome.
What impact does your participation have?
Protecting and developing nature on university grounds
By taking part, you help map and protect biodiversity on university campuses. These areas can then become model examples of how to care for nature sustainably — aligned with ICA’s vision for a sustainable bioeconomy.
A living classroom for future generations
The results of the challenge contribute to creating a high-quality learning environment that not only teaches but also inspires responsibility towards nature.
Together we build a community that changes the world around us
Universities across Europe share ideas, experiences, and best practices. We are united by a commitment to develop campuses that are nature-friendly, support long-term sustainability, and enrich the lives of everyone who studies or works there.
Every contribution, every photo, every recorded species matters.
